Q&A with Luisa Ceballos

I am 19 years old, I live with my parents in San Javier, a little far from Villa Danza. Right now I'm studying, I'm in the third semester of a degree in early childhood education, I still dance, not as often as I could before but I still dance weekly. I am a ballet teacher at Villa Danza. I would like to continue dancing and to be able to travel if possible, dance in other countries, do workshops and have new experiences through dance.

How long ago did you get involved with Soul Dancers and why?

I got involved with Soul Dancers about 6 years ago, I became interested because where Soul Dancers is in operation (Villa Danza) there was a dance network program (Programa Red de Danza) which ended and they invited me to participate in Soul Dancers, which was a similar dance Project back then. Soul Dancers, it’s still a dance project like in the beginning but now it is much bigger and we have been growing together.

What is Soul Dancers for you?

It is a charity that in various ways helps children and young people who want to have a little art and joy in their lives, who want to dance and do not have those possibilities to do it, so Soul Dancers helps these children (including me) to express themselves through dance and art.

What does dance mean to you and why is it so important?

I have been dancing since I was approximately 4 years old, I became interested in dance because since I was little I had a lot of energy, when I had the opportunity when I was younger I tried several things I had access to, until finally I got into dance and I kept practicing it through Soul Dancers.

Today I still dance. For me it means being able to express myself, and being able to communicate with others because through dance one can also find a form of communication, it also allows me to improve my self-esteem and “love myself” as well. It means my whole life because I have been dancing almost all my life.
