La Posada de Moisés

La Posada de Moisés

Soul Dancers is expanding our reach once again – we are now supporting a new foundation called La Posada de Moisés. This is another positive step towards our goal of trying to help and inspire these young children in need through the gift of dance.

It’s so important to realize that what Soul Dancers is providing these kids is so much more than just dance lessons. We are building their confidence, their self-esteem and giving them hope that they can follow their dreams no matter how big they are, and no matter where they might lead.

El Bohío de María

El Bohío de María

El Bohío de María is the most recent foundation Soul Dancers has set out to help on our quest to change the world through dance and education.

Currently, there are 142 kids between the ages of one and sixteen living at the foundation, and within the next few months, we expect to have upwards of 170. Although only girls are now accepted, there are a few boys who have been raised there from the time they were babies.

These children are mostly orphans, however there are kids that come from families of single mothers, fathers, grandparents or related guardians that are unable to care for them due to the lack of opportunity in Columbia. To avoid the risk of these kids living on the streets, they are sent to foundations like El Bohío de María where they receive proper care and education.

Our Amazing Partnership With Army of Sass

Our Amazing Partnership With Army of Sass

ARMY of SASS (AOS) is a heels dance performance and training program in Canada and the USA for dancers of all levels – from beginner, to professional. It is a chance to gain confidence and physical strength while working on improving dance skills in the sassy heels style. With three different class levels (Privates, Corporals and Lieutenants), there is an appropriate match for everyone’s skill set.

A Heartfelt Thank You to h.o.p.e.

A Heartfelt Thank You to h.o.p.e.

Our heartfelt thanks from Soul Dancers Charity to the H.O.P.E Group who raised and donated over $5000! Having met many of the young people who form the H.O.P.E Group, I can say that it is these youth that will be the leaders of tomorrow. That bodes well for all of us who yearn for change in this today’s troubled world. From all of us here and all the children that will receive weekly dance lessons, English lessons and bus fares so thank you for making a difference!

An Uphill Climb

Yesterday at 3pm on a hot Friday afternoon in Medellin Colombia, my 2 pattern makers and I were picked up in a passenger van by 2 nuns of the Catholic Church .We were all on our way to their orphanage/ school that rests near the top of a mountain neighbourhood called Santo Domingo. We were being picked up because it simply is not safe for us to go there alone. It is a barrio with a long history of despair and violence.

Ana Elisa's Story

Ana Elisa's Story

Ana Elisa Echeverri is as close to a living angel as one can be. Ana Elisa taught dance at her local university in Columbia for over 20 years and she owns and operates a little dance studio called Villa Danza. With the financial support of the City of Medellin government, she has been providing weekly dance lessons to impoverished children for the same 20 years. Julie, one of Anna Elisa’s students is an example of the success of the program and there are many more. The love between Julie and her mentor, Ana Elisa is incredible.

Julie's Story

Julie's Story

I was introduced to Julie through a friend of a friend who owns one of the few dance studios in Medellin, Colombia. Soul Dancers needed qualified teachers to bring dance to the children here. Julie is one of the lucky ones who received free dance lessons through a city of Medellin sponsored program to help poor children through the gift of dance. Julie now teaches for the Soul Dancers charity every Sunday at one of the orphanages and earns a wage to help her with her university education.
