Whether you’re a beginner in the world of dance, or have been performing your whole life – nothing can compare to the feeling you get when you first step foot on stage.
8T Arts Company is a non-profit dance studio Soul Dancers has been fortunate to work with since our conception.
Guided by an exceptional human being, Andrés Felipe Cardona, we started supporting what we call a “cast training group” of 18 students, which is a group of young people who attend daily dance classes while learning a wide variety of techniques such as classical ballet, contemporary dance, urban dance, neoclassical technique, and more. This group was created to support young men and women who aim to be dancers but don’t have the financial means to afford learning at a dance academy.
This initiative was so successful that we began supporting two full groups of students – and from there Andrés was able to assist by teaching lessons to the kids at Fundación Eudes, La Posada de Moisés and El Bohio De Maria, which are other foundations we work with and support on a regular basis. You can read about more of these amazing organizations in our “Who Are We Helping” section of the blog.
In addition to dance lessons, Andrés supports his students with psychological assistance, medical assistance, monthly transportation subsidies and dance garments.
In December, just before Christmas – 8T Arts was able to put on an end-of-year showcase featuring all of the students, where they performed the dances they had been working on in full costumes that were donated from our various generous supporters, including Limelight Teamwear and The Hope Group.
With the help of the Soul Dancers team and the amazing dance teachers and coordinators in Colombia, we were able to provide a real “Centre Stage” experience that has inspired and motivated the children, and was a moment they won't soon forget.
Check out all of the photos from this amazing year-end dance recital and see the happiness and sheer joy on their faces first-hand.
